Often our clients are busy people looking for a beautiful environment to live and entertain in that also works for everyday life. However, even those clients with a good eye for design rarely have the time to bring the scheme together. Our knowledge, experience and vision mean costly mistakes are avoided and we can often source products at trade or discounted prices.

 

Paying for the time of an interior designer is a way of ensuring that your project is realised in the most inspired, beautiful and cost effective way.

There are many different approaches to charging for design services in the UK, and so we have created this page to provide you with clarity and certainty with regard to our fee structure.

 

residential design projects

We provide a range of consultancy based on your individual requirements. We are happy to give advice on smaller jobs such as recommending colour schemes, furniture arrangement and styling (charged at an hourly rate of £45.00). More in depth jobs involve drawing up plans and scope of works documents, sourcing furniture and homewares, space planning, sourcing or overseeing decoration. For these jobs we take for following approach.

 

Initial consultation

Except when providing decorating advice, our residential projects start with an initial consultation for the scope of the project to be discussed and the property to be surveyed. These meetings are essential for getting to know each other. You will be able to discuss all of your hopes and wishes for your project and new ideas will be suggested to enhance the design. A clear brief will be set in order that we understand what work you want to be carried out. A flat fee of £70 applies for this consultation.

[Many projects evolve to encompass more involvement than the initial brief stated and that is easily reviewed throughout the project.]

 

Quotation

Following the initial consultation we will contact you to ensure that the scope of the project and its phases are understood. Projects vary in complexity and often involve phases or multiple options so we will also confirm the number of days required to create the scope of works documents and the cost applicable for you to confirm your acceptance to proceed.

 

Stage Two - Creation of plans

This phase is where the plans and detailed scope of works are created. These documents will be sufficient to approach contractors to quote for the build of the project.

A day rate of £275 applies and charges will be applied to the nearest half day.

 

Stage Three - Project management and product sourcing.

We undertake a broad range of design projects. It may be that you would like additional "hands on" assistance with your project. We are often able to source high end furniture, fabrics, wallpapers and other materials (including bespoke items designed under our flo&vie brand - see www.floandvie.co.uk for examples of our designs) at competitive rates. We are also able to assist with more specialist aspects of the project such as planning permission consultations. As mentioned above, these elements are often discussed at initial consultation stage but evolve as the project unfolds. The scope of assistance and time required to complete the tasks will be communicated in writing for you to confirm your acceptance in advance of the tasks in question. Any conditions specific to products, quantities, lead times, etc. will be detailed in separate communications, as required.

Artwork, product design or graphic design collaborations

The scope for this type of project varies considerably. We will advise in advance of any initial consultation if we expect to charge for our time at the consultation and what the applicable rate would be. Once the scope of the project is established we will write to you to confirm the agreed project requirements and the estimated charges for the works. This will either be on a flat fee basis or charged at a daily rate in line with the complexity of the project, with confirmation of the expected time frame in advance of proceeding.

 

Commercial design projects

Due to the variety of interior design, space planning and product sourcing services we offer, our consultancy fee is agreed on a project specific basis and relative to the project complexity and value.
